I’m Molly Steenson, and this will be my ninth year speaking at South by Southwest Interactive. There aren’t many people I’ve met who’ve been more times than I have (though I know they’re there, and a number of this year’s attendees first attended before I ever did). It’s just about my favorite event each year. I’m so glad to hear that there are so many SXSW virgins — last year, the energy at the festival was terrific, thanks to the new people on the block. So hi! I’m psyched to be meeting you.
Currently, I’m attending Yale School of Architecture, where I’m working on a masters degree in history/theory/criticism (the school calls it the masters of environmental design). My work here deals with cities and mobile technology, and on a different front, East Berlin’s wacky socialist architecture. Outside of Yale, I’ve worked with online community since 1992, and with the Web since 1994. I was a professor at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Italy, and have worked at any number of web design firms and product companies. I was the cofounder of a well-received webzine called Maxi, back in the days when we’d talk about webzines, not blogs, at SXSW. (We woulda killed for a decent content management system or blog software package — but we rolled it ourselves.)
