You’ve been networking for three days straight. Your feet hurt. You’ve eaten so much Mexican food and BBQ that your pants no longer fit. And your liver cries for a detox. Even though we’re big geeks, it’s nice to get outside once in a while. Fortunately, many of the things that give Austin all of those high quality of life ratings are near Downtown.
A 10 mile+ gravel loop that is very popular with locals on the weekend. As you jog, stroll or bike, watch the soothing movements of people canoeing and possibly even a crew regatta. Or perhaps, you might spot the next love of your life jogging the other way. Some easy access points with limited parking: Congress Ave. Bridge, S. First Street Bridge, Lamar Bridge, and Mopac (Loop 1) Bridge. Some outfitters such as Run Tex are nearby if you forgot your shoes.

While not walking distance from Downtown, it is a short cab ride a way. In this ¼ mile long, spring-fed swimming pool lives the soul of Austin. It may sound cheesy, but on a sunny day, you can see students, slackers, senior citizens, and sunbathers on the grassy shores. Swim in March you say? The spring keeps the water at 68 degrees year round. Judging by next week’s weather forecast calling for 80 degree + highs, you might want to take a plunge! For mountain bikers in town for a an extra day—a popular and sometimes challenging mountain bike trail begins at the end of the Barton Springs pool parking lot.
