Film Needs to Get Accurate
April 24th, 2007
I remember reading recently that there exists a special team of medical professionals that are responsible for making sure that the medical jargon and procedures thrown around on shows like Fox’s House MD (which rocks) are accurate. I think it’s great. As a tech geek, I get really frustrated when people abuse tech terms in movies or on TV (I still remember from the 2nd Speed movie a computer prompt: “Time to execute: __:__” and he types “N-O-W” *shudders*).
I think such committees should be formed for just about anyone that wants to say something in film. For example, and I get this experience from doing some interviews with ex-Cook County Jail inmates, lots of the perceptions of jail, prison, etc. are horribly out of whack. I know they have to do it for the drama of it all, but they have to at least try to keep some realism, right? Don’t get me wrong, things are bad in jail, but not TV or movie bad (though I don’t recommend trying to find that out first hand).
