Attention SXSW New Media attendees

h1 Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

This will be my first SXSW experience, and I’m especially interested in connecting with professionals who have worked in both the old and new media worlds. My specific interest is New Journalism and its impact on mainstream media outlets. I’d like to get together for a cocktail and discuss best practices and how I can improve my new media applications in higher education. I’m a former TV anchor/reporter and would welcome the chance to meet others with similar backgrounds. Looking forward to a great experience in Austin.

I’m hooked

I made it (finally) to my first SXSW last year. Spoke on two panels. Met a few heros. Saw a few bands play live. Had a great time. This year I’m moderating the final panel on the final day… we’ll see who straggles in. It should be a good one, though, featuring a few people from Make Magazine and a few other D.I.Y. media production types. The panels called “Consumer as Producer” or something like that. More on this when I’m not in a hurry to get out of my office and get to a political meeting. (Or didn’t you know that Democracy for America is still going strong?).

Meanwhile, check out my personal blog, of course, or the one I write for the man!

SXSW Virgin

Hi, my name is Angela. This year will be my virigin voyage to the Austin area and the SXSW festival. Currently, I publish a running blog called, Tulip’s Blog. I got involved with blogging as a result of my husband. There is so much to learn and so many other blogs to visit. I am very excited to attend the festival and explore the area.
Are there any pointers that those of you returning would give to me, the novice, about the festival?

Name/tags

One of the better ideas I overheard at the conference last year was to wear a name tag that read “Tag me as _____,” and you would fill in the blank with the name/word/phrase that you would prefer be associated with you on Flickr (or other similar photo-sharing site).

If you’re in need of more SxSW-related blogness, there’s also SXSW Baby!

Who’s Ready?

This will be the 5th year I’ve attended SXSW Interactive and it gets more exciting every year. One of the best things about the whole event is meeting new and interesting people every day. Of course introductions are usually a little different than on the Music or Film side of things. Interactive introduction: “Hi I’m insert name here and my blog and/or site is insert name here. Who are you and what is your blog and/or site?”.

On the Music side it’s the same only, “What band are you in and what label are you on?” — and likewise in Film, “What film are you in/working on, who else is in it?”

No matter how or where it’s done, meeting people is what makes SXSW a blast especially in the Interactive realm. So I’ll see you there. BTW, I’m Chad and my virtual home is www.invidkllr.com.
