Ray Davies invites you to Other People's Lives.
Some personal video footage plus a few acoustic songs and discussion today, Friday, March 17th from 5-6:30pm at the Austin Convention Center. This session is for SXSW Music and Platinum registrants only.
In what could best be described as a once in a lifetime experience, Morrissey will be interviewed by Rolling Stone's David Fricke for a SXSW Interview on Thursday, March 16, 1:15 PM - 2:30 PM at the South By Southwest Music Conference, followed by a performance later that evening at the Austin Music Hall, presented by the BBC Radio.
This will be a rare chance to hear the icon discuss his work and his influences. Additionally, this will be one of the first performances in support of his forthcoming album Ringleader of the Tormentors which will be released on April 4th on Attack/Sanctuary.
Ringleader of the Tormentors was recorded in Rome by Tony Visconti (David Bowie/T Rex) and includes a contribution from legendary film soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone. Ringleader is Morrissey's first studio album since 2004's internationally acclaimed You Are the Quarry, which became the best selling album of his career and debuted on the Billboard charts at #11.
SXSW is pleased to announce three new artist interviews, with kd lang, Sam Moore, and The Pretenders. These sessions join an unprecedented lineup of artists with previously announced speakers Judy Collins, Kris Kristofferson, and Billy Bragg.
The creative industries are fraught with an abundance of legal issues. For attorney registrants, South By Southwest Music is producing an eight-hour continuing legal education program at no additional cost. More information is posted here, or you can contact cle@sxsw.com.
The SXSW Music Conference presents four days of discussions, panels, speeches, interviews, workshops, mentor sessions, and peer meetings, designed to keep professionals current on important topics, to educate newcomers to the details of the business of music, and to serve as an international meeting place where valuable relationships are cemented. Featured speakers at SXSW Music 2006 include Judy Collins, Kris Kristofferson, and Billy Bragg.
Judy Collins' 2005 album Portrait Of An American Girl on Wildflower Records highlights a voice and spirit that remain strong and insightful. She is a recent recipient of the Americana Music Association's Free Speech Award.
Kris Kristofferson's iconic work in music and film have left an indelible imprint on American culture. He's returned to concert stages lately, including a memorable appearance at SXSW 2004.
Billy Bragg comes to Austin on the occasion of the reissue of four albums; Life's A Riot With Spy vs Spy, Brewing Up With Billy Bragg, Talking With The Taxman About Poetry, and The Internationale, on Yep Roc Records.
