THE AEROPLANES
‘This band are the next Coldplay…….Official’ BBC radio 2 Considering the short life on the musical birth certificates of The Aeroplanes they have already won the somewhat dubious support from the celebrity world. Most notable in this clique are Kate Moss, Lee Starkey (daughter of Ringo) and Hollywood star Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski). Jeff likes them so much he asked them could he use their song ‘Don’t Stop Me’ in his new blockbuster (in which he stars and directed) The Moguls. The film will hit UK and UK cinemas in February 2006. The Aeroplanes also still hold the record for the most downloads in 1 week for an unsigned band on iTunes (56,000). Their first EP (September 2005) was a strictly limited edition 10” featuring ‘Don’t Stop Me’ as the A side. This sold out in 2 weeks. It is to be followed by another limited edition EP (Nov 05) featuring the industry acclaimed (Record of the Day, Kings of A&R) ‘This is my love.’ Their new EP featuring ‘This is my love’ and exclusive tracks from their recent BBC Radio 2 session is released on all formats in late February 2006. They will be touring to support this release so check out press for any dates near to you! Alternatively visit the band website at www.theaeroplanes.co.uk MEDIA Bouncy, vaguely Coral-esque beat-pop with lots of gruff rawness and bite. That’s all very well and good, but it’s ‘Somedays’ that is worthy of your pop pound here, being towering, skyscraping sonic cousin to The La’s “Looking Glass”. NME September 2005 The Aeroplanes are destined to be one of those Great British bands that come along every generation. A phenomenon” The Times Think U2, Radiohead, The Police and you are getting near.” Manchester Evening News God knows what they put in the Mersey estuaries but since rock and roll first put on its blue suede shoes and crossed over from the Atlantic, those Scousers have been dab hands at conjuring up a half-decent tune or two. The Aeroplanes are no exception to the rule, 'Don't Stop Me' furrowing a similar trail to that of The Zutons in jerky, jaunty pop, sounding like an insatiably post-modern Strokes if they'd rehearsed at the Cavern rather than CBGBs. Drowned in Sound Most bands would be ecstatic if they could release these songs as three separate singles, as they are stand-alone hits by themselves. The Aeroplanes are a band that you should get excited about and one you should definitely keep listening out for because if this sets the standard for their musical ability, then the album should be phenomenal. Lead vocalist, Chris Kearney sings on 'Black Hole' that "Music is my saviour". Well, if that is the case then we should all follow The Aeroplanes as they are on the right path!
