The Owls
Genre: Pop Hometown: Minneapolis MN
theowls.net
"The Owls" began in 2000 as a six song demo tape of new works by wife and husband songwriters, Allison LaBonne (Legendary Jim Ruiz) and Brian Tighe (The Hang Ups).

The collaboration really took off upon the entrance of long-time friends and collaborators, Maria May and Stephen Ittner (The Hang Ups), who brought their own songs. Though Stephen is no longer drumming with the Owls, he has contributed to the band's new EP on Magic Marker Records by including his song "Even Now" to the seven others. In April of 2003, the Owls engaged the royal percussive talents of John Jerry (the Ashtray Hearts) and they intend to keep him.

These four friends exchange roles and instruments throughout their sets to accommodate the three songwriters changing leads. Bound by a shared commitment to simple arrangements and songs written around vocal melodies, they quietly set out together to perform anti-heroic search and rescue operations at music venues near you.

"Without ruling out the possibility that Ray Davies and Mo Tucker might one day form an acoustic pop band, savor the Owls for now. The Minneapolis boy-girl-boy-girl group sings so prettily, their sound seems meant for a concert under the trees. (I almost wish the set started closer to twilight.)" -Peter S. Scholtes, City Pages
